Another Tragic Loss...

It has been a rough period of late. Once again we have lost a dear friend. The van-- the trusty 1993 Dodge Caravan-- was very unexpectedly sold a few days ago. We purchased it after the sad accident in the mountains, and it was purchased from us a couple of days ago by a neighbor up the street. Leaving a dear seventeen year old girl without transportation and the rest of the family without a friend in the driveway. One of its top selling features was not its keyless entry, but its keyless ignition. The dear mother advertized this feature to thieves, knowing a stolen car would save the effort of selling it. No one wanted it and aren't we grateful. "Grandma Betsy", as the car was dubbed, once took nine passengers to Disneyland, a carseat with the youngest strapped to the floor. We won't miss the old, stiff door, so much easier to shut going downhill, but we will miss the memories of canning under our feet on trips from Utah, blasting Technicolor music and Boys from New York City. The AM radio and casette player long gone, we were left with one choice for music-- Radio Disney. We could mourn, but there is some solace in knowing this car's life was prolonged as it carried an MBA student and her new baby to and from the airport, making funny noises and strange rattles all down I-15. Our happy van-- with a wide black stripe and large tinted windows. Those were the days. We may not have the car, but gratefully we do have all the memories.

faces of madagascar

This little girl was at the orphanage where we worked for a day. Her name is Fanza and she loved playing with Julianne.

This friend was at the same orphanage. I also met him on Christmas Day, 2004, doing a project with the missionaries.

Julianne and friends at the orphanage.
